Alumni Profile -- Chris McRae
Updated: Dec 2, 2020

At UWSP I earned a degree in Jazz Studies: Composition where I learned useful tools for creating music of all styles. I was involved in several musical ensembles, from low brass choir, cru worship band, on point acapella, to the larger groups such as Jazz ensemble, Concert band, and Orchestra! I had many memorable experiences working with visiting master-level artists such as Lee Konitz, Dave Douglas, Phillip Glass, and Maria Schneider to name a few!
I have had many fruitful composition commissions over the past five years. I do virtual assistant work for Lawrence Semiconductor Research Lab in Arizona for my main income, although I am currently in the process of transitioning to full time composing and recording. In the fall of 2019 I wrote my first flute concerto but, as we all know, 2020 had other plans! I am still awaiting a premiere of several pieces for flute, trombone, and full orchestra! I have also written ten or so big band arrangements and original works.
Recently I’ve been working on the project of writing, recording, and releasing new music every day for a year for my singer-songwriter project Monte. I was Inspired by the youtube channel Unus Annus [featuring Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) and Ethan Nestor (CrankGameplays)] where they would release new videos for a year, then delete the entire channel, videos and all! (Although I plan to keep my music up and available!)
If you would like to check out my music, please stop by spotify, youtube, or bandcamp! As I find groups to record and premiere my other works I will be posting those on there as well! If you are interested in commissioning works please stop by my main page and fill out a request!
I currently reside in Appleton, WI with my wife Amanda (UWSP Flute alum) and pembroke welsh corgi Heidi (non-alum).
